They are witty, incisive and dramatic monologues, one the story of Irene who, following her mother’s death, becomes a self appointed neighbourhood watch.

She’s served her time with bit parts on TV soaps and as an extra in a Roman Polanski film. Action on Hearing Loss

I was invited to present certificates to winners of a mindfullness course run by Action on Hearing Loss based in Alfred Street. It was a great morning and I enjoyed renewing friendships forged in the days of Wilton House where so many of the organisations met. More about this anon.

    I have just been venting my spleen on various Facebook postings about the same subject. We need a unified approach to our heritage sites
    The one that enraged me was Belfast’s smallest house. It was embraced by the tourist industry and we had pictures of it on maps tee shirts postcards and our tours even stopped in Great Victoria street to let people photograph it and be photographed outside it.

    Despite its popularity nobody even tried to have it listed etc. It was just taken for granted and horror of horrors the contracter who demolished the Methodist church which adjoined the tiny house pulled it down as it wasnt protected.
    Then the outcry began !! A very sad tale but in many ways typical of our attitude to our heritage. More and more of our city is being demolished and we only stand up to be counted after the deed is done.
    The same happened with the old Co-op facade and the Orpheous Building.- The cries of outrage came after the wrecking ball was moved in
    Can I urge more and more people to take heed of planning applications and attend planning meetings and raise objections

    if we all dont develop a moral conscience and speak up earlier more and more of our heritage

I was in Queen Street today sitting in the car and noticed the old police station still standing between horrible modern buildings, it looks so thin and damp but noble and feisty at the same time.
